The collective “With the Fields” provokes gatherings where sustainable practices in our contexts are reflected upon. We exchange stories and observations from the field, reflect on ecological and communal realities in relation to a specific type of neo-agro-colonialism that our regions face, exchange rituals, books, and recipes, discuss the history and politics of our food, practice decolonizing pedagogy, and rehearse performances together. Focusing on ongoing work in our contexts is a central concern of the collective. Our practices are situated between the fields of the Ganges plain, villages, waters, and rainforests in Northeast India; in the Amazon forests near Manaus, between the Adolpho Ducke Reserve and Puraquequara Lake in the Água Branca Incra settlement; across the Rio Grande (the current border between Mexico and the USA), in two Swiss alpine villages, both in the canton of Graubünden, in the various research and activity sites of the Inland Academy in Europe, and in the village of Balia in the northwest corner of Bangladesh. In this text, several members of the “With the Fields” collective share how they relate to and practice with the waters in their surroundings through various activities and encounters in the field. The collective “With the Fields” consists of Salma Jamal Moushum and Kamruzzaman Shadhin from the Gidree Bawlee Foundation of Arts; Nora Hauswirth and Emerson Fernandes da Silva from Arte e Escola Na Floresta; Paloma Ayala; Anga Art Collective; and Tara Lasrado.
