The agriculture and food industries face significant challenges worldwide. On shrinking land areas, more food must be produced in an environmentally and resource-conserving manner. One way to achieve high land productivity with low environmental and resource impact is through permaculture approaches and agroforestry systems. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) now recognize permaculture and agroforestry systems as activities of paramount importance for food production. However, efforts to establish permaculture and agroforestry have often been undermined or destroyed by politics and lobbyists from large agricultural corporations.
